PERTH December 21, 2023:

The Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre is pleased to present our Activity Report for 2023 after yet another action-packed year in the battery sector.

This years’ edition showcases the breadth of our activity including our advocacy work, international partnerships, focus on higher degree by research students, masterclasses and provides an update on current status of our research portfolio.

In reflecting on the year, Chairman Tim Shanahan said:

“The world has woken to the battery opportunity. Competition and rivalry to capture battery and critical minerals industries has intensified. Recognising this, in March 2023, we released the Charging Ahead report which identified the battery industry opportunity has doubled. The FBICRC’s work has sharpened Australia’s response, informing the 2023 Critical Minerals Strategy and the forthcoming National Battery Strategy, as well as contributing to policy development across Australia.”

Chief Executive Officer Shannon O’ Rourke said:

“Across the globe, we’re witnessing a transformation in battery and critical minerals industries. Clean energy expenditure increased to A$2.5 trillion, up from A$1.6 trillion just three years earlier. Batteries, critical minerals, and mining are front and centre on the path to net zero. Our work, amplified by our 74 participants, is building a strong foundation to succeed.”
