The Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre (FBICRC) welcomes this week’s statement by Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade Roger Cook, that Covalent Lithium has confirmed its plans to construct a lithium refinery in Kwinana.

The announcement takes the total number of lithium refineries under construction or in commissioning in the state to three, together with BHP’s nickel sulphate refinery.

The announcement illustrates the scale and speed of investment in producing battery grade chemicals which puts Australia on the cusp of reproducing the present generation of battery chemistries using locally sourced materials – a key focus of research and development by the FBICRC.

The Minister’s full statement can be found here.
