Did you know that cathodes and anodes are key components of a battery, acting like sponges to soak up and store lithium ions in their structure? Did you also know that cathodes determine both the performance and the cost of a battery?

Because they are so important to the battery revolution currently taking place, the Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre is especially excited to take you on a guided (virtual) tour of our flagship facility – the Cathode Precursor Production Pilot Plant (CPPPP).

The facility is the first of its kind in Australia, producing cathode precursor materials and is helping to establish the technology and capability for Australia to design and build cathode precursor manufacturing facilities on a commercial and industrial scale.

Our CPPPP project is made possible through the support of our valued project partners which has recently expanded from 19 to 22. They are:

  •  Allkem Limited
  • Alpha HPA
  • Ardea Resources
  • BASF
  • BHP,
  • Blackstone Minerals
  • Calix Limited
  • Chemx
  • Cobalt Blue Limited
  • CSIRO
  • Curtin University
  • EV Metals
  • HEC Group
  • IGO
  • Jord Proxa
  • King River Resources
  • Lycopodium
  • MRIWA
  • MN Energy
  • Pure Battery Technology
  • QUT
  • UTS

Since it was officially launched in July of this year, we have welcomed the Hon. Minister Ed Husic, Department Secretary Meghan Quinn, Chief Scientist Cathy Foley, as well as ambassadors from Thailand and Indonesia, dignitaries from India and Argentina and a huge number of industry project partners through its doors.

Our virtual tour is available here and offers a brief description of the facility, panorama views, a photo album, an overview of the project and a bit about the FBICRC. You can also find information about our full suite of research projects. Happy touring!
